green beans

this is the first entry. i'm starting a food blog but need to figure out first which blog site i'm going to use.

i remember when i first found out that we'll be moving to san diego almost a year ago -- i thought that i'd have to live without any asian foods for four years (the amount of time it'll take oo to finish his residency). this is a huge problem for someone like me who was born and raised in hawaii on asian foods. four years on the east coast in an isolated but beautiful college also taught me that i never want to live without access to good asian foods again! (the closest chinese restaurant served frozen spring rolls that were microwaved, someone saw a waiter stick his finger in a spring roll when my friend complained about how cold the spring rolls were) i did a random google search for asian restaurants in san diego and couldn't find anything satisfactory. i finally felt better only when i googled ranch 99 and found out they have one store in san diego. yay for chinese vegetables!!

then oo got here early and found out there are various pockets of san diego where there are actually asian restaurants!!

i find it hard to rely on generalized restaurant guides for asian food -- i prefer to trust a person who actually knows what good asian food is supposed to taste like. a lot of good asian food tend to be located in ghetto places (what i'd consider ghetto anyway compared to la jolla and places back home in hawaii) -- i think those restaurants located in these areas tend to be overlooked despite the excellent quality of their food. so i'm hoping that people will overlook my sparse and brave attempt to start a blog about food in san diego and other themes on this topic.
